Merry Christmas and lots happening in the New Year!

It is almost Christmas and I hope that you are enjoying this wonderful festive season. Do you have traditions that you love to stick to when you celebrate? Do you get time to enjoy the family time, the catch ups etc or are you just always rushing around?  I have been very busy up until this weekend and I am enjoying the chance to slow down a bit, well at least for the new couple of days 😅 Next year is already quite packed and there is still some things to do this year, including finishing Qualification for Directorship with Mary Kay (only one person to go!) and then I am singing at the Cricket NYE but then things get really underway first week of the new year! Anyway I thought I'd let you know about what's going on next year, in case you need some last minute Christmas Gift ideas 😉 2018 is going to be a great year and I am so looking forward to sharing so many different things next year! So Starting off with  Oklahoma! on a Farm  January 5-7 with  Emma Knights Prod

A Whole New World

So I got to do something pretty awesome last night! I got to sing "A Whole New World" at the SACA Member's Test Match Dinner (the Ashes Dinner before the second Ashes series in Adelaide) in front of a lot of well known people with the special guest being Sir Tim Rice!! Now, I love my Disney and never throw up a chance to be a Princess but to sing that song in front of the person who wrote the words (and won an Academy Award for it) is a little crazy! But it was a wonderful experience and it was great sharing it with Brady and the singers and dancers from Impact Entertainment. Plus got to wear an amazing sparkly dress 😍 I will be honest and say it is not something I would normally wear but it was perfect for it! I am constantly surprised by the amazing opportunities God gives me to sing and am so grateful. My life is so filled with diversity and fun. So Christmas is just around the corner and that means that we are all busy but for performers, I think it r

Little Crazy

Finally I am getting a chance to write this!! meant to do it end of October but things just got a little crazy! So so much has been going on and I've even had a birthday since my last post. So i wanted to fill you in as some exciting things are happening. October was a great month, filled with all the things I love. Makeup doing, birthdays, catch ups and concerts. Soul Factor was back doing their concerts and we had an absolute ball! Full crowds, great music, costumes and fun. Its been a few years since we did a Broadway Concert and it was such a pleasure to get back to it and the audiences loved it too. Later in the month I sang at the Hills Choral Society Concert. It was a songs of Stage & Screen concert so it was lovely to sing some favourites. My solos were I Dreamed a Dream, When She Loved Me, Colours of the Wind and Buenos Aires and then I joined the choir for the Phantom of the Opera Medley. It was a lovely afternoon of music. The 29th was my birthday and

Just one of those things...

Spring!! It's finally here and so is some sun, well not everyday but we can dream huh? 😂 I can not believe how quick this month has gone and how much has happened. Has your September been the same?? So September 1st I went into DIQ (Director in Qualification) with my Mary Kay business. So I have four months to grow my team and build my business. I truly love the company and the opportunity that it has been for me and I love sharing this with others. On September 2nd, were the Adelaide Theatre Guide Awards and this was a great night! I was nominated for Best Actress (Amateur) for my role as Aida in Aida. I did not win but I am grateful for the nomination for a role that I grew to love. Excitingly though "Big Fish" did win for Best Show so we all had a great night!  The rest of the month has been filled with weddings, Mary Kay events, Makeup, learning and rehearsing, I auditioned for a National Musical, singing at events and booking new events. Soul Factor&

At the End of August

Can you believe that it is the end of another month?? I feel like sometimes I fall asleep and wake up a week later missing days in between 😂 What about you? But I admit I have been doing lots of interesting things and really enjoying myself which is important and it will soon be SPRING!! So August for me started in Melbourne looking after my Niece and Nephew for a few days. It was a really lovely time with them, we learnt lots about each other and had lots of fun, at the end as I was not used to living with a 1 and 4 year old I was exhausted but so happy I was able to do it. There is a lot to be said for having your own business! On the final Saturday in Melbourne, my sister Lauren and I were able to have lunch and go see Aladdin. What a glittering spectacle that was and such a pleasure to see such a favourite film of mine come to life on stage. After that week the dreaded lurgy that everyone seems to have caught this winter got me. And really it has taken the rest of the month

And I'm free to do what I want....

My last post was about how I felt there was something coming but I didn't know what.....So just over two weeks ago I was made redundant from my part time job that I have held for the last 8 years. This was unexpected, I had just moved the office to new premises and well, it was a surprise. Now honestly, I feel that it is actually a blessing and I believe it is God given me a bit of a push. I was just disappointed in how they did it but then, is there a good way?? This quote came up on instagram the other day and it resonated alot with me. What makes me feel free is singing and sharing with people and for a long time I have wanted to do just performing and Mary Kay. I think that I have held onto my admin job as a security blanket, which is totally understandable but still, sometimes we have to take a leap of faith. I wont say I am not a little bit scared at times when I think about things but I am also at peace with it. I know that God will provide and has great things

Something's Comin', Something Good.....

"Could it be, yes it could Something's comin', something good If I can wait Something's comin' I don't know what it is But it is gonna be great" I woke up singing these words this morning and I thought "Yes" I do have a sense of expectation that good things are coming. I am working on some exciting goals at the moment but I also know that God has some exciting things planned for me and obviously wanted me to know that today! I often work through music, ideas, dreams, emotions, stress reducing, praise, exercise, amazement and more comes to me when I listen or sing to music. Some of my happiest moments in my life have been through music whether performing or experiencing. What about you?  Does music speak to you like that? Do you have particular songs that speak to you at different times?  Music is definitely a global language that connects us all! Anyway, just wanted to share that with you 😊 So "so

Memories

I find it interesting that at certain times of the year, every year, I do interesting things. It's kind of like that time of the year is made for doing interesting things. Now I may not have figured this out but thanks to Facebook Memories everyday I get a reminder of what has happened over the last 10 years or however long I have been on FB. Ok so I get that we shouldn't "Live in the past" or whatever but interestingly I have found that looking at those memories makes me very grateful for the blessings I have in my life. For the people i know and share with and for the opportunities I am gifted with. In just the last couple of weeks I have had memories spanning performing in Les Miserables - G&S 1st season 2008 Pirates of Penzance - G& S 2010 MSB UK Trip and singing at the Royal Albert Hall - 2011 My Brother Alex's Tribute Concert Little Women - Therry 2013 JD Lord Band & Ding gigs - 2016 (blog here )  Big Fish - 2016 (my b

Written in the Stars

Well its a little hard to believe but the weekend just gone was closing weekend of the musical AIDA, presented by Hills Musical Company and in which I was playing the title role of Aida. Everything seems to be flying by but I wanted to take a moment to look back on it. This was the SA Premiere of this musical with music & lyrics written by Sir Elton John and Sir Tim Rice and we had a really successful season. For a lot of our audiences they had never heard the music, they may have had an idea of the story as it does follow the story of the Opera Aida but for most it was new and it was such a pleasure to see them enjoy it. The Director Lauren Scarfe, Choreographer Thomas Phillips and Musical Director Kristy Williamson had a vision and although the process to get this on the stage was not without its challenges, the end result was a wonderful show and everyone worked hard. It was a pleasure to work opposite Lindsay Prodea and Tegan Gully again. Both did a wonderful job as Radam

Playing a Princess...

Playing Disney Princesses seems to be a thing for me, I have played a lot of them over the years in shows and concerts and really who doesn't want to be a Disney Princess?? While i have played many of the favourites (Belle and Ariel being two of mine), I now have the challenge of playing a lesser known one, AIDA. Now, putting aside the fact that my skin is technically the wrong colour this role is an interesting and different one for me. Aida, which is set in ancient times, is taken into slavery by the neighboring Egyptians. She must now deal with being a servant to her enemies while trying to conceal her identity yet come to an acceptance of who she must be, the leader of her people in slavery. At the same time she is falling in love with the Captain of the Eqyptian Guard. So life is a little crazy, and through it Aida must accept who she is. When I play a role, I always try and find a connection between me, Bec, and the character I am playing. When looking at Aida, I do under

So focus, and focus......

And another show is finished. Saturday night saw the closing show of 35mm: A Musical Exhibition, the Fringe show that I have been working on and performing last week. This really was an interesting show and something quite different to what I've done before. The music was an eclectic bunch of styles but also a challenging array of harmonies and tempos, of which I enjoyed pushing myself to get correct. For me personally, I was singing and bouncing all over my range from very low to high so it was a good workout. My role itself was as the Photographer and I got to stroll around the room, picking out cast from their frames so that they could sing/act out the next story. I really enjoyed it actually and the fact that I got to step back and listen occasionally was a nice bonus. My fellow cast mates where a great bunch of people. Yes we were all very different, but together it just worked and I was so proud of all of us. There were funny songs, crazy songs, beautiful and sad songs

Sing for me......

Teaching singing lessons and vocal coaching was something I only really got into last year. Of course I have dabbled with it over the years, through taking groups, musicals, people asking etc and you can not be around music as much as I am and not share with people. But last year I took a step and took on some students. What had been holding me back was that i don't really play the piano, I can play for myself but for others .....no! 😅 But I realised that I was holding back things I had learnt and could share with people and that was selfish really. The funny thing was when I did step out I really enjoyed it. I like to think of my style of teaching as pretty simple. I want to know that I can do what I am teaching and I can then explain what it is like for me. Which I find does help people understand it and or not feel silly when I suggest something just as silly or do it along with you. Growing up in a performing family I feel there is a lot that I learnt naturally and if not i

"It's my party and I'll.........."

So, my dad turned 60 on the weekend and we put together a party for him. Now originally He didn't want a party and us ladies (his daughters & wife) said it doesn't matter you are getting one so he accepted that. Dad then got to thinking, and realising 1. his family are all performers 2. he knows a lot of performers and 3. it was his birthday so he could do what he wanted He decided he wanted people to sing and perform on the day effectively turning his party into a birthday cabaret. So after writing an extensive list of songs and performers we set out to all make this happen (as he never really says what he wants so this was a real plus 😁 ) What took place was a fabulous afternoon of performing, laughter, good coffee, food and friendship!! Mum sang, the Raymond Sister's sang, Olivia, Lauren and Aaron, Bella (my 4yo niece), Andrew Crispe and I did a few pieces from Big Fish (Dad loves it and helps we do too 😉 and I don't know if there was a dry eye in the p
