Changes...

I have been wanting to write this post for a while, but so much has been happening!
So in my last post I talked about Oklahoma and what an amazing time that was, my year had gotten off to a great start! Well other exciting things have happened since.

So you may or may not know I have lived in the Adelaide Hills most of my life, I love living there, I like the trees, the fact that you can drive a couple of minutes and your in the country, my family live there and its a bit slower paced. Unfortunately most of my work is in Adelaide and surrounding suburbs and my fuel bill has been huge so I have been thinking I would need to move closer down the hill. As it happens I now have, into a unit in Clapham! It all happened very quickly but it was all very exciting and such a change for me. Now every thing is around 15 minutes away instead of at least 30. Its 5 mins to Soul Factor rehearsal which is crazy but it is nice to get home at a reasonable time.
The Lower Mitcham area is where my dad grew up and so Grandma & Grandpa were there when I was little so it kind of reminds me of my childhood. The area is nice and does have trees and parks which is important because I do miss that. I am getting used to the trains that go right behind my house and to driving with everyone else at certain times of the day but I get that its a new thing and that change takes time. I'm very grateful to everyone who has helped out so far, Dad's birthday lunch on Sunday (first roast in the new placed cooked!) went well so now its just gradually getting those things I don't have and making do until I don't, I'm quite creative so ideas are coming haha!!

So also in January, I auditioned for a musical called "Big Fish" with Therry Dramatic Society. I had only heard the musical around the start of the year and hadn't seen the film but as soon as I heard it I fell in love with it. The storyline about the Father/Son relationship between Edward, a teller of imaginative, big fish tales and his adult son, Will, who is searching for what's behind his Dad's stories is touching and I think relevant to so many people. We don't always understand our parents, or who people are in our life but its what makes up our life. I think I connected with it as my Dad is very much a storyteller, the centre of attention but it made our childhood and even now, our lives colourful.
The role I auditioned for and was offered was "Sandra". She is the love of  Edward's life and Will's mother. I was very excited to get this role, which was funny because I had only really just heard the show. But I love the character, her music and the chance to play out a whole life on stage. Throughout the show, Sandra ages from around 17 - 65 so I get to be everything in a couple of hours haha! I also love that this show is contemporary and I get to sing more like how I normally sing. Often people think of me as a more classical, soprano type and yes I can do that and have done many roles like that but this is great for showing a little bit more of what I do outside theatre.
So rehearsals for that start on Feb 28!

Pirates of Penzance on the Popeye for the Adelaide Fringe starts this Friday! It is such a fun show to be a part of. Plus we have sold out all 8 of our shows so that is exciting! I love being connected to the audience and to have a bit of fun with something that so many people know and I am so grateful for these opportunities (plus the artists I'm working with a great bunch!).

I am also in rehearsals for Soul Factor's Easter Cantata "The Power of His Love". Now if you've been around a while you may remember we did this as a full musical in both 2008 and 2009. It has amazing music and was very well received then. This time we are doing it more as a reader's theatre type concert and it will be powerful. It is lovely to be reprising the role of Camilla (Pilate's Wife) again and to be singing the wonderful music. So don't miss your chance to see it and bring friends. There are two shows, March 20th 3pm and 7:30pm at Adelaide Congress Hall, 277 Pirie St Adelaide. Tickets are available here. Don't Miss it!

So much is happening plus I've booked in some weddings, and I will be singing in Melbourne for Easter so lots is happening! I love that I am singing so much and hopefully I'll get to see you at some of these events!

Have a fabulous week!

There's a bright golden haze on the meadow....

"There's a bright golden haze on the meadow....." Yes there is! Emma Knights Productions Oklahoma! on a Farm is BACK for its fourth season and opens this Thursday. If you have been reading my blog for a while, you will know that this is a special production and the role of Laurey is one I love to play! This year is the 75th Anniversary of the Production of Oklahoma! and so it is wonderful to be performing it again in the same year. Although in rather milder weather! The Farm, Four Oaks at Littlehampton is beautifully green and bursting with life. The animals are in full voice as in the wonderful cast. Immerse yourself in this unique family-friendly experience, a beloved classic with live horses, windmill, and a country fair of delicious treats & wares. If the last 3 seasons feedback is anything to go by, you will LOVE IT!! If you have seen it before, you will know what I am talking about and you should tell others. Or come along again and bring some new fr

All Shook Up!

I am blessed. A week ago I got back from an amazing singing trip. Cruising the seas, performing with amazing musicians and performers, 16 shows in 7 days, plenty of food and a ton of laughs - I am still smiling. The Cruise 'N Groove Elvis Meets the Legends Cruise was a fantastic week. I had never been on a cruise before so it was quite an experience, I loved the food and the weather was fantastic (only a bit of rockiness to contend with) and we visited Mare and Noumea in New Caledonia.  I am reasonably new to the Elvis world and so this was an eye opener for that as well but I actually loved it. Elvis fans are exceptionally passionate and in some ways quite a wonder.  I was on this trip as a backing vocalist with the Tributes in Concert Band or TIC Band and we backed all of the headlining Elvis Tribute Artists. So to the band first, what a privilege it was to perform with them. Each and everyone of them super talented (to the point, that I would get caught watching them at t

MMMBop and road trip classics 😉

Road trip singalongs are the best! Do you agree?  What are your favourite songs to sing? Do you have specific lists or eras or styles of music you listen/sing to?  For me it usually depends who I am travelling with but nothing beats a good 80s/90s song list.... So last weekend I was on a road trip to Halls Gap with my sister, my brother in law and my niece and nephew. We had a fabulous time singing away the hours to many a favourite. Of course the kids occasionally asked for a song they knew but we thought it was important we listened to the classics haha 😜 We headed to Halls Gap for NanaFest 2019! A weekend to celebrate the 90th Birthday of my Nana Dawn. Staying in cabins and tents the family came from Victoria and SA and shared a weekend of catching up, a party, jumping pillows and bonfires. I do love my family, there is a a lot of us and it is lovely to see the all the generations interacting and enjoying each others company. We had wonderful weather and my sister
