Singing for Wellbeing!

Today I am doing something new. I am teaching a session at the SA Occupational Therapy Combined State & Country Forum on how singing is good for wellbeing. Did you know this? I am sure all those friends out there who are singers and musical theatre performers know it and most people know how music is good for our wellbeing whether we are a musician or not.  What I found interesting is actually looking at it and putting the feelings and benefits into words. For as long as I can remember, I have loved to sing, when feeling down I would put on favourite music and sing along. Or when I felt the situation needed it, sing a soundtrack because just like in the movies, music does enhance a situation, and there is nothing like losing yourself singing at the top of your voice into your hairbrush while dancing like a lunatic......c'mon you can't deny it ;)

So I have had to look at songs that make people happy and that are about happiness and wellbeing and how to showcase that to a non singing group.  After a very handy facebook survey (thanks all!) some great songs were suggested maybe some of these a favourites of yours..

  • Forget your troubles, Come on Get Happy
  • Don't Worry Be Happy
  • I'm a Believer
  • Walking on Sunshine
  • Shiny Happy People
  • Somewhere Over the Rainbow
  • Always Look on the Bright Side of Life
  • Wake me up before you go go
  • etc...
So what are yours??

Well I am off to have this fun session of which will include some choice (funny) warm ups and a rendition of Heads and Shoulders, Knees and Toes as well.

Have a happy day :)

A Dream is a wish your heart makes....

A dream is a wish you heart makes... Do you have a dream? something that you want your life to be? or somewhere you want to go? Are you reaching for it? I have had a dream to be a Mary Kay Director since I joined the company 10 years ago and this month I took a huge step to achieving this. On October 1st I entered into DIQ or Director in Qualification, I now have 4 months to become a Director. I am very excited about this, the timing seemed right and when I do it I will be able to do just Mary Kay and Singing which will be perfect! It is rather scary though because there is a lot of work to be done in those four months, I have to build my team and reach certain production goals and sometimes it seems crazy, but that's the idea of moving up isn't it? taking a leap of faith? So why Directorship you ask? I understand leadership is not for everyone but I have always been drawn to it. I do have a passion for helping women feel good about themselves and I believe that we are...

2018 Celebration!!

2018 has really been an amazing year.  When I look back on what I've actually done this year it is actually quite crazy but I've enjoyed every minute of it.  There have been times of difficulty and real stress when things didn't go to plan but God has blessed me so abundantly and really allowed me to use my gifts to share with people and to create a life that is really full of joy. So at the beginning of this year, I actually said I was gonna have a quieter year and that turned out to not be true in the slightest. But it has been amazing!  So this year, I have done Oklahoma on a Farm twice, played Princess Fiona in an SA Premiere of Shrek (plus learned to tap dance), done a Bee Gee's Tribute with my sisters, climbed aboard a Pirate Ship many times, been a Siamese Twin in SideShow the Musical, been an Ice & Fire Queen, learnt and performed many Elvis songs, sang on a Cruise Ship,  sang on the radio 4 times, perfomed in concerts, gigs, dinne...

Merry Christmas and lots happening in the New Year!

It is almost Christmas and I hope that you are enjoying this wonderful festive season. Do you have traditions that you love to stick to when you celebrate? Do you get time to enjoy the family time, the catch ups etc or are you just always rushing around?  I have been very busy up until this weekend and I am enjoying the chance to slow down a bit, well at least for the new couple of days 😅 Next year is already quite packed and there is still some things to do this year, including finishing Qualification for Directorship with Mary Kay (only one person to go!) and then I am singing at the Cricket NYE but then things get really underway first week of the new year! Anyway I thought I'd let you know about what's going on next year, in case you need some last minute Christmas Gift ideas 😉 2018 is going to be a great year and I am so looking forward to sharing so many different things next year! So Starting off with  Oklahoma! on a Farm  January 5-7 with  Emma K...
