A Song for Everything

Usually with tears haha!! Sadly all good things do have to come to an end and on Saturday evening the season of "Big Fish" The Musical had its last bow. But what an amazing time it was! Often you'll get to the end of doing a show (which has taken months of your life up) and think "it's been great but be glad to finish", Big Fish was not like that at all. I have been blessed to do some fabulous shows, with great people and of course when your passion is performing and you get to do it everyday, you don't want to let it go. But from the first rehearsal, we all knew we had something special. The musical itself is a magical journey filled with colour, joy and mythical characters entwined with real life and love, the music although sometimes called unmemorable is just beautiful and not only am I not over it, I can't seem to stop listening to it! Our orchestra was so amazing with the difficult score, and the backstage & technical crew were phenomena...

Well after around 4 months of rehearsal the time has come for us to open "Big Fish" the Musical. Tonight is the Preview before tomorrow Opening Night and I am so excited to share it with audiences and bring the SA Premiere to Adelaide! You may have gathered from other posts that I LOVE this musical and the role that I am playing. Of all the lead roles I have played, this one, Sandra Bloom, is a special one. But I think that has a lot to do with the cast, production team and all those involved with putting this show on. It has been such a wonderful rehearsal period creating something beautiful and for that I feel very blessed. I get to sing some beautiful songs, be a mother and grandmother and have red hair! Plus you don't want to miss my blue Sparkly dress!! If you are trying to decide whether to come to it as you don't know the story or music I encourage you to take a leap and come along. It's taken me until today to recover really, it was a rather big weekend haha! It's funny how you go through life and great things, big things etc all seem to clump together, it can't be nicely spread out over time. Well that is what happened on the past weekend, don't get me wrong I had a ball but I was rather exhausted come Monday morning. So what was I doing? Well Saturday started with a big rehearsal with the J.D. Lord Band getting ready for our gig Sunday evening. We did have a rather long set list and although Backing Vocals aren't exactly hard they are taxing on your voice (and some of mine are rather high!) plus you are singing over a loud band. Anyway, Saturday arvo/evening I was getting ready for a Ding Productions gig at the Hilton Adelaide. It was fun to be back with this group and doing our "Funhouse" set. So a bit of time has passed since my last post, actually I feel like this year is running past! Can you relate?? Well lots has been happening since my last post and I'd love to get you up to speed. At the moment my life is made up of rehearsals, work and baby showers it seems haha! Big Fish the Musical opens in about 4 weeks and I am loving every minute of that rehearsal process. I am so grateful for the experiences and opportunities I have had this year and this musical is another of those moments. I love the character I am playing (Sandra), the songs I get to sing and all the people I am working with. On April 24th, Andrew Crispe and Myself sang one of our duets from the show at Broadway Sessions . This is a night that happens once a month, kind of like an open mic night, gives performers of all ages and experience the opportunity to sing something out of a the musical theatre genre. Ok so the leaves haven't turned yet but the skies have been a bit greyer lately (plus I always giggle when I sing this song after the Sketch Show skit check it out here ). Autumn is definitely here and as today is the last day of March we are set for a new month. I was reflecting back on the last three months and can not believe how much has happened! First of all I hope you and your family had a wonderful Easter. What did you get up to? Do you have a tradition that you do every year? I was asked this year as the Guest Soloist at Box Hill Salvation Army's Easter celebrations. I truly love Easter music and so it always is such a pleasure to share it with others plus I got to stay and spend time with my sister Lauren, Aaron and Bella. So I had a lovely time away and was really happy with how my voice was. Waiting. We've all done it, we've all been frustrated by it at times, we've all got through it and I am sure we've all asked the question "But, why?" On my walk this morning, I really felt I should write about waiting. Four years ago on this day, my younger brother and his best mate had a car accident. My brother Alex went into a coma and thus began the waiting until 2 days later when he passed away. We had to wait and see how he was, wait to see how surgery went, wait for test results, wait for a conclusion of sorts. Friends and family had to wait for more information. Although this time was painful and numbing, it was in this time of waiting that I grew and I know my family grew as well we also found out our strength. When I look back on this time, I actually am grateful for it. Which to you may sound odd but things like this help us become the people we are meant to. Over those two days, so much prayer and love was spoken, shared, messaged, hugged ...

I have been wanting to write this post for a while, but so much has been happening! So in my last post I talked about Oklahoma and what an amazing time that was, my year had gotten off to a great start! Well other exciting things have happened since. So you may or may not know I have lived in the Adelaide Hills most of my life, I love living there, I like the trees, the fact that you can drive a couple of minutes and your in the country, my family live there and its a bit slower paced. Unfortunately most of my work is in Adelaide and surrounding suburbs and my fuel bill has been huge so I have been thinking I would need to move closer down the hill. As it happens I now have, into a unit in Clapham! It all happened very quickly but it was all very exciting and such a change for me. Now every thing is around 15 minutes away instead of at least 30. Its 5 mins to Soul Factor rehearsal which is crazy but it is nice to get home at a reasonable time. The Lower Mitcham area is where my dad...
